What is rosin activated core wire?

Rosin activated core wire is a type of solder that is pre-fluxed in the wire and can be directly used for soldering. You can understand it in this way, it's a combination of solder alloy with flux in one same product. The traditional way, is solder alloy is just the metal part (tin based solder alloy) without any flux in it, then during the soldering process, users will need to apply the external flux to carry out the soldering work.

 

What is the rosin in this rosin activated core wire?

Rosin is the product coming from pine trees, it's a yellowish crystal material, some people call it resin. Rosin is the base material the flux & with neccessary additives being added into the it. This type of rosin activated core wire is suitable for electronic soldering or electrical soldering, and in most general cases, it's not a must to remove the residue due to rosin is a non aggressive material. Activated rosin will flash during the soldering (when the heated soldering tip touches it), and helps to give the heat to make the solder melt fast and the flux inside will help the soldering are to be cleaned and jointed firmly.

What alloys can the rosin activated core wire be made into?

1. It can be made into lead free solder wire with a rosin activated core, including different alloys of SAC305 solder (Sn96.5Ag3.0Cu0.5), SAC0307 Solder (Sn99Ag0.3Cu0.7), SAC07 solder (Sn99.3Cu0.7) etc.

2. It can also be made into leaded solder wire with alloys of Sn63Pb37 (solder 63/37), Sn60Pb40 (Solder 60/40), Sn50Pb50 (solder 50/50) etc.
