What does RoHS solder wire mean?

RoHS solder wire is referring to the type of solder that is lead free & complaint with RoHS standards. Because of health care & environmental protection, more and more products are required to be lead free, and RoHS standard have set up the numbers of maxmium value of toxic ingredients inside a certain raw materials or products.

 

What types of alloys are RoHS solder wire?

Most commonly seen 3 types are:

SAC305 solder wire, which contains 96.5% of tin, 3% of silver, 0.5% of copper.

SAC0307 solder wire, which contains 99% of tin, 0.3% of silver, 0.7% of copper.

SAC07 solder wire, which contains 99..3% of tin, 0.7% of copper.

Silver can helps the solder to be leak-tight, enhancing the electrical conductivity, and a smooth round solder bead

Copper helps to improve the wetting proper of solder, enhancing the resistance to thermal cycle fatigue.
