What is solid wire solder?

Basing on whether the wire solder is pre fluxed or not, we can classify the solder by solid wire solder and flux core wire solder. So a solid wire solder means the solder is without any flux in it, it's just directly cast from metal alloys.

Why using solid wire solder?

It would pretty depend on the final applications. But generally users who prefer to use a solid wire solder, is because they want to use a most proper flux for their applications, so that they don't want to use a pre fluxed solder that is fixed with one flux. Commonly you will see robot soldering of electronics, plumbing pipes soldering, stained glass soldering, radiator soldering etc, these applications will prefer a solid wire solder.

Can solid wire solder be available in different alloys?

Oh yes, defintely. Any solder alloy can be made into solid wire solder, such as SAC305 lead free solder, SAC0307 lead free solder, SAC07 lead free solder, Sn63Pb37 leaded solder etc.
