What is plumbers solder bar?

It's a type of solder bar that is used for plumbing purpose. Generally it's used for soldering copper pipes and fittings, by using a gas torch gun to heat and melt the solder bar.

What do we need to pay attention to when using plumbers solder bar?

1. Decide on what alloys to use. If it's for heat & code supplies, there is no strict requirements on the the types of solder bar, as long as it can join the pipes & fittings, such as leaded solder bar Sn40Pb60 solder bar, Sn50Pb50 solder bar, Sn60Pb40 Solder bar can be used, or lead free types such as Sn99Cu1 solder, Sn97Cu3 solder bar etc. But in case if it's used for drinking water pipes, then definitely it has to be lead free plumbers solder bar, as leaded types contain lead which is not good for health.

2. When do the soldering, plumbers better heat the pipes & fittings from the bottom, and brush the plumbers solder bar from top side to down side, thus the solder would flow to cover the joints well.

3. Acid basis flux would be used for doing plumbing soldering, as the copper is easy to oxidized and get a tarnished surface, thus an acid based flux would help to clean the soldering surface and help the solder to well connected the parts.
