What is solder wire for copper pipe?

It is the types of solder wire that are used for soldering copper pipes and fittings (copper plumbing systems).

 

What alloys are available of solder wire for copper pipe?

Lead free alloys: Sn97Cu3 solder wire, Sn99.3Cu0.7 solder wire, Sn95Sb5 solder wire etc.

Leaded solder alloys: Sn60Pb40 solder wire, Sn50Pb50 solder wire, Sn40Pb60 solder wire etc

Generally for just soldering copper pipes, all above alloys can work, but if the copper pipes are for carrying portable drinking water, then it has to be lead free solder wire. And generally solid core solder wire will be used for copper pipes.

What specifcations of solder wire for copper pipe?

1. Wire diameter: bigger wire diameter is more preferred, such as 1.6mm, 2mm, 2.7mm, 3.2mm etc

2. Solid core solder wire is more frequently used, then plumbers will apply external flux.
