What is cored solder?

Cored solder is a very handy product that is a combination of solder alloy with flux in it. As we know, to do a soldering, we need to use flux before applying the solder on, as the flux is to help cleaning the surface of joint area, and to help the solder alloy easier melt, flow and form a nice solder bead. If we see the cut section of a solder wire, a cored solder can be easily seen a small yellowish spot in the center, that's the flux cored of the solder. The invention of cored solder greatly improve the soldering speed which means cost saving of manufacturing.

How many types of cored solder?

Basing on the nature of the flux, it can be rosin cored solder that is used for electronic soldering, or acid cored solder which is used for soldering of copper products (copper sheets, pipes etc). Make sure you choose the correct type of cored solder, if you use an acid core solder for electronics, it might cause damage of the electronic parts.

What alloy can cored solder be?

Lead free tin and leaded tin can both be made into cored solder. Such as SAC305 Cored solder, SAC07 cored solder, Sn63Pb37 cored solder, Sn40Pb60 cored solder etc.
