What is eutectic tin lead solder?

The concept eutectic means liquidus temperature & solidus temeprature is same. So an eutectic tin lead solder means the solder will melt and solidify at one same temperature, without the pasty range (plastic range), a tin lead composition of Sn63Pb37 (63% tin and 37% lead) is an eutectic alloy, that has melting point 183 degrees Celsius.

Why using eutectic tin lead solder?

If we just considering the basis functions of solder: electrical conductivity and bonding, then we have to say all the compositions can meet the basis demands. But the eutectic tin lead solder is easier to use for below reasons:

1. It's low melting point at 183 degrees Celsius when comparing to other tin lead solder that is higher than this. Meaning it takes less heat to work with this solder, it would be easier for green hand to use it.

2. Eutectic tin lead solder is without the pasty range as stated above, so the solder bead will form nicely after molten. Other tin lead solder has pasty range that takes time to solidify and if the users are not skillful, the solder bead might ends with a sharp tip and that has the potentional of short-circuit.
