What is 40/60 solder wire?

This solder alloy is a tin and lead alloy solder wire, the 40 represents that this solder wire contains 40% of tin, and 60 represents that it contains 60% of lead. It's a mid range melting temperature solder wire with affordable cost. 40/60 solder wire compares to 63/37 solder wire, cost wise is about 1/3 less.

1. Wire diameter: the 40/60 solder wire is available in 0.5mm to 3.2mm such as 1mm, 2mm, 3mm etc. It depends on the applications the you need to use the solder for to choose the solder wire diameter. If you are using the solder wires for soldering small staff, such as mobile phone etc, small wire diameter is better. If you're soldering bigger joints, such a soldering for machines etc, a bigger solder wire diameter is better. Choose the right diameter to avoid multiple soldering or too excessive soldering.

2. Options of 40/60 solder wire core: this 40/60 solder wire can be made with no clean rosin flux core that is suitable for electronic components soldering; also the solder wire can be made with a acid core and in big wire diameter such a 1.6mm or 3.2mm, used for soldering of plumbings (such as copper pipes with fittings); Also we can make the 40/60 solder wire with solid core without flux, this one generally used for automatic soldering purpose, but make sure that you apply external flux during soldering.
