Solder bar is one common form of the solder which is used for dip soldering and wave soldering of electronic devices, or being used for tin plating or joining of metal sheets such as flashing, gutter, roofing seaming system etc.
How many types of solder bar are there in the market?
1. Leaded solder bar. Leaded solder bar is a tin & lead alloy, but there're many composition of the tin and lead content. The best one is the eutectic alloy Sn63Pb37 solder bar, which has lowest melting point and very good solder joint, good shearing strength and bonding strength. Besides that, there're solder bar of Sn60Pb40, solder bar Sn50Pb50, solder bar Sn40Pb60 and even to a low tin solder bar such as Sn5Pb95. The higher content of tin is, the more expensive it would become.
2. Lead free solder bar. We can tell right away from the name that this type of solder bar contains no lead, in replacement of lead, silver and copper are usually used. Majorly there SAC305 solder bar (Sn96.5Ag3.0Cu0.5), SAC0307 solder bar (Sn99Ag0.3Cu0.7), SACX07 solder bar (Sn99.3Cu0.7). The lead free solder bar complies with ROHS regulation and can be used for soldering where ROHS compliance is required.
