What is Flux Core Solder?

Flux core solder means a solder wire is pre-fluxed during the manufacturing of solder wire, and no external flux is required during the soldering work. It's easier to understand it as a "2-in-1" option. During soldering, a proper flux must be used, as the function of the flux is used to clean the surface of soldering area and helps the solder to better melton & flow to bond the two ICs, thus making a flux core solder that is pre-fluxed, users can directly use the solder and it saves time.

How many types of flux core solder are there?

1. Rosin flux core solder. This one is a eletrical solder that is used for soldering electronic products, and by using ROL0 or ROL1 rosin flux, it's not neccessary to do a cleaning after soldering, pretty handy for users.

2. Acid core solder. This one is fluxed with a strong acid flux and more used for soldering of metals, commonly seen in being used for plumbing pipes joinery. It's a must to clean the residue after soldering, otherwise the acid based residue might corrode the metal. And it's not recommended to use acid core solder for soldering eletronic products.
