What is Lead Free Solder Wire?

Lead Free Solder Wire is a type of solder wire that doesn't contain lead, it complies with ROHS or REACH standards. Technically speaking, lead free solder wire is not 100% lead free, it means the lead content is very small, less than 300ppm or 100ppm depending on actual requirements. In comparison, a leaded solder wire means the major ingredients of the solder wire is tin based but mixed with lead, it's also known as tin lead solder wire, and the lead content is from 37% up to 95%.

How many type of lead free solder wire in most general cases?

1. SAC305 lead free solder wire. This is a solder wire made with tin, silver & copper, also known as Sn96.5Ag3.0Cu0.5 lead free solder wire. It's used for high precision and high standard electronic manufacturing.

2. SAC0307 lead free solder wire. This one also contains tin, silver & copper, but the silver percentage is only 0.3%. 

3. SAC07 lead free solder wire, this one only contains tin & copper. It's much cheaper when comparing to SC305 solder, but still can meet the requirements of most general applications, thus this one is most widely used one.

How is lead free solder wire comparing to leaded ones?

1. Lead free solder wire on average has a higher melting point comparing to leaded ones. This might make some users feel it more difficult to use.

2. Lead free solder wire on average is more expensive than leaded ones.

3. But lead free solder wire is environmentally friendly, and in real practice, some markets have set up ROHS, REACH standards, so all electronic products must be lead free, thus it's a must to use lead free solder to do the soldering work.
