China Tin Solder
Tin Solder
Tin solder is a general name representing a group of solder alloys. It's a solder material that is with tin based, and combined with other metals such as lead, silver, copper, antimony etc, depending on what final application it is for and also the budget of projects.
What forms are tin solder available in?
Tin solder can be made into different types / shapes depending on the applications, majorly will be in 3 forms:
Tin solder wire: the solder alloy is cast into a wire form, and winded into rolls. This one is a very flexible form of solder alloy to work with, just with a soldering iron it can be used. Thus in the market we will frequently see solder wire.
Tin solder bar: the solder alloy is cast into a bar form, it's used for dip soldering or wave soldering, thus a solder pot or wave soldering machine will be needed to carry out the soldering work. Or when it's used for soldering metal sheets, a torch soldering gun will be used to carry out the soldering work.
Tin solder paste: the tin alloy is made into solder powder (diameter at 25 to 45 microns) and mixed with cream. It's in a paste form, and it is used for SMT (surface mount technology) through re-flow soldering oven.
Leaded tin solder &lead free tin solder, which to choose?
1. Look at the related laws & regulation of your country. Each country / area might have their own regulation, some countries have strictly announce in some applications only lead free solder is allowed to be used, thus for such applications, you can only consider lead free tin solder.
2. In case there is no regulation on lead free or leaded, then what you need to consider is budget & quality. In general, leaded tin solder is with lower melting point (meaning it's easier to use) and cost is lower too, thus it could be a good option for many cases.
